Yamashita Kyôemon III | |||||
Dates of birth and death unknown. He started his career during the Hôreki era, performing as a tachiyaku under the name of Yamashita Tokujirô. He took the name of Yamashita Kyôemon III in 1769. He became a star in the 1770s in hama shibai, reaching the prestigious itaru-jô-jô-kichi rank in 1773. He reached the kô-jô-jô-kichi rank in 1797 and retired in 1804 after a successful isse ichidai performance at the Kadomaru no Shibai. His field of excellence was budôgoto. His younger brother Yamashita Tokutarô and Yamashita Koshirô were his disciples.
