Arashi San'emon IX portraying the koshimoto Okaru in a print made by Yasukawa Harusada I (1830s)

Most likely, it is the role of Okaru in the classic "Kanadehon Chûshingura". We know that Arashi San'emon IX performed this role at least twice during his career: in the 8th lunar month of 1837 at the Wakamiya no Shibai (Nagoya) and in the 3rd lunar month of 1838 for a performance in the precincts of the Inaba Yakushiji Temple (Kyôto)
