SHARAKU STAMPS

A special emission of the Japanese Post to commemorate "Edo famous places and the art of Ukiyoe" was released in August 2008. It included two stamps based on two Tôshûsai Sharaku's prints made in 1794: the actors Arashi Ryûzô II and Ichikawa Yaozô III playing the roles of the money lender Ishibe Kinkichi and Tanabe Bunzô in the drama "Hana Ayame Bunroku Soga", whose plot and characters belong to the "Kameyama no Adauchi" world and which was staged in the 5th lunar month of 1794 in Edo at the Miyakoza
