Fall 1745: Ichinojô went to Ôsaka. 11th lunar month of 1745: Ichinojô played at the Kado no Shibai the role of Koshio in the kaomise drama "Murakami Genji Kogane no Niiyakata", which was produced by Arashi Sanjûrô II. 11th lunar month of 1751: Ichinojô played at the Minamigawa no Shibai the role of Otaki in the kaomise drama "Kyôganoko Asahi no Nishiki", which was produced by Sakakiyama Shirotarô II. 11th lunar month of 1752: Ichinojô played at the Minamigawa no Shibai the role of Torazô's sister Oishi in the kaomise drama "Hatsubaika Asahi no Minato", which was produced by Yamashita Matatarô I. 2nd lunar month of 1753: Ichinojô played in the same theater the role of Orin in the ni-no-kawari drama "Keisei Naruo no Umi". Fall 1759: Ichinojô and Anegawa Daikichi I went together to Edo. 11th lunar month of 1759: Ichinojô played at the Ichimuraza the role of Akane Gozen in the kaomise drama "Okunizome Shusse Butai"; his main stage partners were Ichikawa Danjûrô IV, Onoe Kikugorô I, Bandô Sanpachi I, Nakamura Utaemon I, Sanogawa Ichimatsu I, Bandô Hikosaburô II, Ichimura Kamezô I, Matsumoto Kôshirô III and Anegawa Daikichi I. 1st lunar month of 1760: Ichinojô's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, wakaonnagata section, was jô-jô-(shiro)hankichi (superior - superior - (white) half excellent) [visual]. He shared the same rank as Osagawa Tsuneyo I. 1st lunar month of 1762: Ichinojô's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, wakaonnagata section, was jô-jô (superior - superior) [visual]. He shared the same rank as Ogino Yaegiri II. 11th lunar month of 1763: Ichinojô performed at the Nakamuraza in the kaomise drama "Daijôbu Takadachi Jikki", which celebrated the shûmei of Ichikawa Yaozô II and Ichikawa Komazô II. 1st lunar month of 1764: Ichinojô's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, wakaonnagata section, was jô-jô (superior - superior) [visual]. He shared the same rank as Nakamura Matsue I, Tomizawa Montarô I and Sanjô Kametarô. 2nd lunar month of 1764: Ichinojô played in the same theater the role of Akoya in the new year drama "Hitokidori Harutsuge Soga"; the roles of Kagekiyo and Chichibu no Shôji Shigetada were played by Ichikawa Danjûrô IV and Nakamura Shichisaburô II. Summer 1764: he became disciple of Ichikawa Danjûrô IV and received the name of Ichikawa Datezô I. He also became a tachiyaku actor. 8th lunar month of 1764: Datezô played at the Nakamuraza the role of Naritsune in the drama "Heike Nyogo no Shima", which commemorated the 6th anniversary (7th memorial service) of the passing away of Ichikawa Ebizô II. 11th lunar month of 1770: Datezô became katakiyaku and performed at the Nakamuraza in the kaomise drama "Nue no Mori Ichiyô no Mato", which celebrated the shûmei of Matsumoto Kôshirô II, Ichikawa Danjûrô V, Nakamura Shôchô, Ichikawa Monnosuke II, Nakamura Shichisaburô III and Bandô Sanpachi II. 1st lunar month of 1771: Datezô became kashagata and performed in the same theater in the new year drama "Sakaichô Soga no Nendaiki". 15th day of the 5th lunar month of 1771 [1]: Datezô died in Edo. Comments: Ichikawa Datezô I was a 18th century actor, born and trained as a wakaonnagata in Kyôto, who spent the last 12 years of his 35-year long career in Edo, where he switched to tachiyaku in 1764. He became katakiyaku and kashagata a few months before his death. He was said to be well suited for jidaimono dramas.
