Dates of birth and death unknown. He was most likely a disciple of Imamura Shichisabur˘ II and his first stage name was Imamura Shichiz˘. He took the name of Imamura Shichisabur˘ III in the 1st lunar month of 1775 in Ky˘to, performing in the new year drama "Koi Such˘ Itoshi Nurebumi", which was produced by Nakamura Mankatsu. He was active in Ky˘to and ďsaka, performing as a tachiyaku or a katakiyaku, up to the middle or the end of the 1780s.
