Dates of birth and death unknown. He was the younger brother of the actor Asao Shichijirô. He started his career in Kyôto during the first half of the 1710s. His stage name was Kiriyama Sôshichi and he was recorded as performing as a tachiyaku in the 11th lunar month of 1714 in the kaomise drama "Azuma-zukuri Ôdaidokoro", which was produced at Kameya Kumenojô's theater by Sakakiyama Shirotarô I. He took the name of Kiriyama Sôshichirô in the 11th lunar month of 1717, performing in Kyôto in Sadoshima Saburôzaemon's kaomise drama "Iwao no Matsu Manbai no Midori", which was produced by Miyako Mandayû in his theater. He took back the name of Kiriyama Sôshichi the following season, playing in Kyôto in the 11th lunar month of 1718 the role of Umezugawa Daibu in Sadoshima Saburôzaemon's kaomise drama "Meoto Matsu Jufuku no Kodane". From the 11th lunar month of 1724, he also worked as a tôdori in Kyôto theaters. He took the name of Kiriyama Sôshichirô in the 11th lunar month of 1730, playing in Kyôto the role of Sengoku Manzaemon in Sawamura Bunji's kaomise drama "Inari Yakata Manpô no Kura", which was produced by Arashi Koroku I at Hayagumo Chôdayû's theater. He took back the name of Kiriyama Sôshichi in 1731. He was recorded in 1735 as working as a tôdori but he did not appear on stage anymore. No record afterwards. He was the father of Kiriyama Monji I.
