Nakamura Tôzô III | |||||
Born in 1791. He started his career as a disciple of Nakamura Utaemon III, who gave him the name of Nakamura Hashizô. He took the names of Nakamura Yôgorô and Nakamura Shibaroku in Ôsaka in the 11th lunar month of 1813 and in Kyôto in the 11th lunar month of 1816. He went to Edo with his master and Asao Tomozô II at the beginning of 1818. He took the name of Nakamura Tôzô III in the 9th lunar month of 1818 at the Nakamuraza, playing in the drama "Taiheiki Chûshin Kôshaku". He went back to Ôsaka in Fall 1819. He took the name of Nakamura Jûgyô in Kyôto in the 11th lunar month of 1835. He reverted to the name of Nakamura Tôzô III in 1836, which he kept up to 1840 when he took again the name of Nakamura Jûgyô. He definitively reverted to the name of Nakamura Tôzô III in 1842 and died in Ôsaka the 11th of the 6th lunar month of 1848 [1]. He was a good katakiyaku but did not really achieve fame for himself.

Dates of birth and death unknown. The first stage names of this Kamigata actor were Kataoka Tajirô and Kataoka Jitsuzô. He was adopted by the actor Nakamura Kashichi II, who gave him the name of Nakamura Nakasuke. Later on, he took the name of Nakamura Tôzô IV. He made an obscure career in Kamigata. |
