The actor Sengoku Hikosuke I held this name from the 11th lunar month of 1691 to the the 4th lunar month of 1740.

Date of birth unknown. Disciple of Sakata Hangorô II, he received the name of Sakata Kunihachi and he was recorded for the first time in 1762 when he performed in Edo as a katakiyaku. He took the name of Sengoku Hikosuke II in the 11th lunar month of 1779 at the Nakamuraza, where he played the role of Onchi Sakon in the kaomise drama "Kaeribana Eiyû Taiheiki", which also celebrated the shûmei of Yamashita Mangiku I. He played in the same theater in the 1st lunar month of 1780 the roles of Danzaburô (Gorô's retainer) and Detsuchi Mosaku in the new year sogamono drama "Hatsumonbi Kuruwa Soga"; the role of Soga Gorô Tokimune was played by Ichikawa Monnosuke II. He appeared on stage for the last time in the 9th lunar month of 1780, in Edo at the Nakamuraza, where he played the role of Amakawaya Igo in the drama "Kanadehon Chûshingura". He died in Edo in the 10th lunar month of 1780.
