Career:

Before 1821: disciple of Nagawa Shimesuke II, he started his career as a sakusha in Ôsaka miyaji shibai. His first pen name was Nagawa Itten.

1821: he became sakusha in hama shibai. He worked at the Wakadayû no Shibai.

1826: he took the name of Chikamatsu Ichirobê. Later, he took at unknown dates the names of Nagawa Ichirobê, Yanagi Ichirobê and Yanagi Ichirobei.

11th lunar month of 1834: he took the name of Nagawa Shimesuke III at the Minamigawa no Shibai, where he worked on the dramas "Igagoe Norikake Gappa", "Imoseyama Onna Teikin" and "Daikyôji Mukashi Goyomi", which starred Arashi Rikan II, Kataoka Nizaemon VII, Jitsukawa Gakujûrô I, Iwai Shijaku I and Kataoka Ichizô I.

1835: Shimesuke worked at the Ônishi no Shibai. No record afterwards.

Nagawa Shimesuke III was a Kamigata sakusha, who was active in ôshibai from the beginning of the Bunsei era to the beginning of the Tenpô era.
