Ichikawa Shinzô I | |
Dates of birth and death unknown. Son of the actor Nishimura Yaheiji and disciple of Ikushima Shingorô, he started his career as a wakaonnagata, performing under the name of Ikushima Shinzô. He became disciple of Ichikawa Danjûrô II in Fall 1710, becoming tachiyaku and taking the name of Ichikawa Shinzô I in the 11th lunar month of 1710 at the Yamamuraza, where he played the role of Manriki in the kaomise drama "Jinriki Teika Azuma Asobi", which celebrated the arrival in Edo of the Kamigata actor Arashi Kiyosaburô I. He retired from the Kabuki world the following year. |
