Segawa Takenojô I

Born in 1687. Disciple of Segawa Takesaburô, a disciple of Segawa Hatsudayû I (the founder of the Segawa clan), he started his career in Kyôto in 1698, where he performed as a wakaonnagata. He performed in Ôsaka in the 11th lunar month of 1706 in the kaomise drama "Daimyô Chôhôki", which was produced by Arashi San'emon III. No record afterwards. He did not leave his mark in the history of Kabuki but he was the master of two of the most talented onnagata actors of the first half of the 18th century, Segawa Kikunojô I and Segawa Kikujirô I. He was also commonly called Kishichi.

Dates of birth and death unknown. A minor wakaonnagata actor held the name of Segawa Takenojô II and performed in Edo at the Ichimuraza from the 1st lunar month of 1707 to the 1st lunar month of 1708. No record afterwards.
