Career:

September 1936: he makes his first appearance on stage at the Mihamakan in Yokohama, receiving the name of Nakamura Fukuji and playing the role of Tsuruchiyo in the play "Meiboku Sendai Hagi".

April 1946: Nakamura Fukuji joins a province-touring troupe led by Mimasu Gennosuke and takes the name of Mimasu Kyôjirô.

January 1955: Kyôjirô becomes a disciple of Ichikawa Chûsha VIII and receives the name of Ichikawa Nakanosuke III.

July 1962: Nakanosuke becomes nadai and celebrates the event by playing the role of the taiko mochi Hanchû in the play "Kagotsurube Sato no Eizame", which is performed at the Meijiza.

October 1981: Nakanosuke becomes a disciple of Matsumoto Kôshirô VIII and takes the name of Matsumoto Kôemon during the great 3-generations shûmei of the Kôraiya guild (kôraiya sandai shûmei) at the Kabukiza; he plays the role of Heinai in the play "Kanjinchô", a peasant in "Terakoya" and a taiko mochi in the seventh act of the classic "Kanadehon Chûshingura".
