If you plan to go only for a single drama (4th floor of the Kabukiza), our personal recommendation
would be the comical "Goto Sanba" (with Nakamura Kichiemon in the role of the drunk Gotobê), the tragic dance-drama "Sumidagawa" (with Nakamura Ganjirô in the role of Hanjo-no-Mae) or the beautiful dance "Ninin Wankyû" (with Kataoka Nizaemon and his son Kataoka Takatarô in the roles of
Wankyû and his lover Matsuyama). If you prefer Shinkabuki, "Banchô Sarayashiki" or "Jiisan Baasan" are also very good plays.
It is worthy to note that the dance "Dontsuku" is staged to commemorate the 6th anniversary (7th memorial service) of the passing away of Bandô Mitsugorô IX.
