Manju played the roles of Yamanba and the craftsman Motome (in reality Fujiwara no Tankai) in "Yamanba" and "Mikasayama Goten". It was also the hatsubutai of Manju's grandson Nakamura Baishi V and Nakamura Shidô II's sons Nakamura Haruki and Nakamura Natsuki. Manju has said that he came up with the name Manju himself, which contains the ideogram 'man' which can be read either man or yorozu (Yorozuya being the yagô of his family). Manju was also one important era of the Heian period. The first year of the Manju era was 1024, 1000 years ago, and this year 1024 was a kôshi year, the 'wood rat year', the first year of a cycle of sixty years in the Japanese traditional zodiac.
