The first show is dedicated to 2 masterpieces of Kabuki: Chikamatsu Monzaemon's "Kezori" and Kawatake Mokuami's "Sannin Kichisa". The former is about a colorful smuggler and the latter about the adventures of three thieves whose common features are the same first name (Kichisa) and a strong sense of honour. Castings are as follows:
The evening show includes a typical Kamigata play, "Katsuragawa Renri no Shigarami" (Obiya), and the great classic "Kumagai Jin'ya" starring the popular actor Nakamura Kichiemon in the role of the warrior Kumagai Naozane. The 3 dances that ends the program are played by children actors: Nakamura Tokizô's sons (Baishi, Mantarô), Nakamura Kashô's son (Tanetarô) and Ichimura Manjirô's son (Takematsu). |
