History

1895: building of the Misonoza.

May 1897: kokera otoshi at the newly-opened Misonoza, with a troupe led by Ichikawa Sadanji I; his two main stage partners were Ichikawa Gonjûrô and Bandô Yasosuke II.

June 1949: Ichikawa Jukai III and Ichikawa Sumizô VII celebrated their shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza.

October 1949: Matsumoto Kôshirô VIII celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza.

May 1950: Nakamura Kanzaburô XVII celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza.

October 1991: Nakamura Ganjirô III celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza, playing the role of a little girl, Jûbê and the spirit of the Lion in the dance "Tenaraiko", the "Numazu" scene of the drama "Igagoe Dôchû Sugoroku" and the dance "Kagami Jishi".

October 1998: Kataoka Nizaemon XV celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza, playing the roles of Fujiya Izaemon and Sukeroku in the dramas "Kuruwa Bunshô" and "Sukeroku Kuruwa no Hatsuzakura".

October 2001: Bandô Mitsugorô X celebrated his shûmei at the Misonoza in Nagoya by playing the roles of Kumagai Naozane and Tadanobu in the play "Ichi-no-Tani Futaba Gunki" ("Kumagai Jin'ya") and the dance "Yoshinoyama".

October 2002: Onoe Shôroku IV celebrated his shûmei at the Misonoza in Nagoya, playing the roles of Soga Gorô in "Kotobuki Soga no Taimen" and the spirit of the spider in the dance "Tsuchi-gumo".

October 2003: Nakamura Kaishun II celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza, playing the leading female roles of the 2 beautiful dance-dramas "Tsumoru Koi Yuki no Seki no To" and "Iro Moyô Chotto Karimame".

September 2004: Ichikawa Ebizô XI celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza, playing the roles of Hikaru-no-Kimi and Sukeroku in the dramas "Genji Monogatari" and "Sukeroku Yukari no Edo Zakura".

October 2006: Sakata Tôjûrô IV celebrated his shûmei at the Misonoza in Nagoya, playing the roles of Sasaki Moritsuna and the keisei Yayoi (in reality the spirit of a shishi) in the drama "Ômi Genji Senjin Yakata" and the dance "Makura Jishi".

October 2008: Nakamura Kinnosuke II celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza, playing the roles of Konoshita Tôkichi, Minamoto no Yoriie and Lord Matsue in "Kinkakuji", "Shuzenji Monogatari" and "Kôchiyama".

October 2011: Nakamura Matagorô III and his son Nakamura Kashô IV celebrated their shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza [more details].

October 2012: Nakamura Kankurô VI celebrated his shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza, playing the roles of Fukuoka Mitsugi and Tadanobu in "Ise Ondo Koi no Netaba" and "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura" [more details].

March 2013: Ichikawa En'ô II, Ichikawa Ennosuke IV and Ichikawa Chûsha IX celebrated their shûmei in Nagoya at the Misonoza [more details]. These were the final theater performances at the Misonoza as the most famous theater in Nagoya definitively closed afterwards in order to be rebuilt.

April 2018: Opening (kokera otoshi) of the new Misonoza! Matsumoto Hakuô II and Matsumoto Kôshirô X celebrated their shûmei in Nagoya [more details].
