Dates of birth and death unknown. Son of the sakusha Matsuya Raisuke I and eldest brother of Nakayama Bunshichi I and Nakayama Shinkurô II, he started his career as a disciple of the star Nakayama Shinkurô I, who gave him the name of Matsuya Monjûrô. He performed as a tachiyaku in Ôsaka at the Kado no Shibai in the 7th lunar month of 1749 in the drama "Osana Narihira Izutsu no Kagami". He changed his family name (same reading but a different ideogram for the ya of Matsuya) in the 11th lunar month of 1757 at the Naka no Shibai, where he played the role of Sanada Bunzô in the kaomise drama "Sakiwake Musha Kôbai no Tazuna" which was produced by Anegawa Shinshirô II and celebrated the shûmei of Monjûrô's youngest brother Nakayama Raisuke I. He took the name of Nakayama Monjûrô in the 11th lunar month of 1765 at the Kitagawa no Shibai, playing the role of Awasuke, in reality Kaizuka Yagenji Harunaga, in the kaomise drama "Takara-Kita-Yama Kogane no Ishizue". He was recorded in a yakuwari banzuke for the last time the following year, when he played in the 1st lunar month of 1766 in the same theater the role of Katagiri Yôsuke in the new year ni-no-kawari drama "Keisei Miyako no Fuji". His rank in the 1766 Kyôto hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, was jô-jô-(shiro)hankichi (superior - superior - (white) half excellent) [visual]. No record afterwards.
