Born the 17th of July 1920. Son of Ichikawa Beishô II, grandson of Ichikawa Kodanji V and great-grandson of Ichikawa Kodanji IV. His father died the 6th of May 1922 and he received the patronage of the actor Ichikawa Sadanji II. He made his debut on stage (hatsubutai) in October 1936, in Tôkyô at the Meijiza, where he received the name of Ichikawa Shachimaru II. He became nadai and took the name of Ichikawa Nedanji II in March 1941 at the Meijiza, where he performed in the drama "Toribeyama Shinjû". He joined the Onoe Kikugorô Gekidan in February 1949. He left the Kabuki world in 1954 to enter the TV world. He was back on Kabuki stage in November 1963 thanks to the patronage of Nakamura Kanzaburô XVII, playing at the Kabukiza the role of Fujikake Mikawa-no-Kami in the drama "Shinsho Taikôki". He appeared on stage for the last time in August 1991, playing the role of the shôya Tarôemon in the drama "Sanemori Monogatari". He was a talented and versatile supporting actor, excelling in sewamono dramas. He died the 28th of December 1991.
