Career:

1st lunar month of 1698: Premiere at Hayagumo Chôdayû's theater of the drama "Keisei Asama-ga-Dake", which was produced by Yamashita Hanzaemon I [casting]. Kuwabara Sanzaemon was recorded for the first time, playing the role of Suwa Tonegorô (a katakiyaku role) in "Keisei Asama-ga-Dake".

1st lunar month of 1700: Sanzaemon performed in Kyôto in the new year drama "Keisei Okusama Sugata Meshitaki Sugata".

1st lunar month of 1701: Sanzaemon went to Ôsaka and performed in the new year ni-no-kawari drama "Keisei Mandôe", which was produced by Kamogawa Noshio I.

11th lunar month of 1707: Sanzaemon performed in Ôsaka in Azuma Sanpachi's kaomise drama "Onna Daimyô Irekozan".

2nd lunar month of 1708: Sanzaemon's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, katakiyaku section, was (superior) [visual].

Fall 1710: Sanzaemon went to Edo.

11th lunar month of 1710: Sanzaemon became tachiyaku and played at the Ichimuraza the role of Nagasaki Kageyu Saemon in the kaomise drama "Shusse Taiheiki", which celebrated the shûmei of Takii Hanshirô and welcomed in Edo the Kamigata actor Kirinami Takie.

3rd lunar month of 1711: Sanzaemon's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, was (superior) [visual].

11th lunar month of 1711: Sanzaemon performed at the Ichimuraza in the kaomise drama "Shusse Taiheiki".

1st lunar month of 1713: Sanzaemon played at the Ichimuraza the role of Ishidô Jônosuke in the new year drama "Taihei Onna Imagawa".

4th lunar month of 1713: Sanzaemon's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, was jô-jô (superior - superior) [visual].

11th lunar month of 1713: Sanzaemon moved to the Moritaza and played the role of Hayato in the kaomise drama "Yorimasa Taikyoku no Mato".

Fall 1714: Sanzaemon went back to Ôsaka.

11th lunar month of 1714: Sanzaemon became jitsuaku and performed in Ôsaka in the kaomise drama "Bandai-ga-Ike no Tsurukame", which was produced by Arashi Sanjûrô I at Shioya Kuroemon's theater. He fell ill and stopped acting.

1st lunar month of 1715: Sanzaemon's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, jitsuaku section, was jô-jô-(shiro)kichi (superior - superior - (white) excellent) [visual]. He shared the same rank with Bandô Matajûrô I and Kirinoya Gonjûrô I. In another hyôbanki, his rank was only (superior) [visual]. No record afterwards.

Comments:

Kuwabara Sanzaemon was a Kamigata actor, who was active in Kyôto, Ôsaka and Edo from the end of the 1690s to the first half of the 1710s. He performed as a katakiyaku or a tachiyaku. He ended his career as a jitsuaku.
