Born in Tôkyô the 28th of September 1929. Grandson of Nakamura Karoku III and son of Nakamura Tokizô III,
he was also the brother of Nakamura Tokizô IV, Yorozuya Kinnosuke, Nakamura Kashô II and Nakamura Kazuo.
He performed as a Kabuki actor under the name of Nakamura Shidô I but quickly stopped acting to become a movie producer for the Tôei Company.
His son took his stage name in June 1981. He left the Tôei Company to create the Nakamura Shidô Office (Nakamura Shidô Jimusho in Japanese),
a company to support his son's business. He died the 11th of October 2008, victim of a stomach cancer.
