Onoe Ukon I Onoe Ukon I |

Born in 1658. He was a disciple of Onoe Taganojô I and his only recorded stage name was Onoe Ukon I. He was performing as a wakaonnagata in Kyôto in the 11th lunar month of 1698. He played in the 1st lunar month of 1700 the role of the keisei Komondo in Chikamatsu Monzaemon's drama "Keisei Guzei no Fune", which was produced by Sakata Tôjûrô I at Miyako Mandayû's theater. He went to Edo in Fall 1711 and played in the 11th lunar month of 1711 at the Yamamuraza the role of Senju-no-Mae in the kaomise drama "Shida Konjiki no Uroko". He went back to Kamigata in Fall 1716. His last-recorded stage performance occurred in Ôsaka at the Naka no Shibai, where he played one role in the drama "Kokusen'ya Gassen". He died the same year. He was ranked (shiro)jô (almost superior) in the 1st lunar month of 1717 Ôsaka hyôbanki, wakaonnagata section [visual]. He was the master of Onoe Kikugorô I's master Onoe Samon. |

Dates of birth and death unknown. Disciple of Onoe Ukon I, he most likely took the name of Onoe Ukon II at the end of the 1710s, after the death of his master. He performed in the 11th lunar month of 1720 in Kyôto at Miyako Mandayû's theater as a wakaonnagata iroko. He made his last-recorded appearance on stage in the 11th lunar month of 1724 in Kyôto, playing the role of Okuri in the kaomise drama "Yomeiri Miyako no Shimadai", which was produced by the zamoto Ogino Umenosuke at Ebisuya Kichirôbê's theater. We don't know what happened to him afterwards. |
