Onoe Sh˘kaku I

Born in 1832. Grandson of Ichikawa Ebijűr˘ I, son of Onoe Tamiz˘ II and elder brother of Onoe Ichiz˘, his first stage name was Onoe Sh˘k˘. He took the name of Onoe Waichi II in Kamigata at unknown times. Waichi and his younger brother Ichikawa Ichiz˘ III went together to Edo in Winter 1857. He went back to Kamigata and took the name of Onoe Sh˘kaku I in the 11th lunar month of 1861 in Ky˘to at the Minamigawa no Shibai, playing the role of Nagao Kagekatsu in the classic "Honch˘ Nijűshik˘". This tachiyaku actor was active in Kamigata up to his death the 22nd of October 1878. His haimy˘ was Baich˘.

The actor Onoe Matsusuke VI held the name of Onoe Sh˘kaku II from May 1971 to April 1990.
