Summary |
The hills of Ueno are resplendent with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Representative carefree pleasure-loving characters of the Genroku period, such as a tanzen zamurai, a tomo yakko, a yuna, a zatô, a chônin, a wakashu and a machi musume, who are dressed in all their finery, have gathered there to enjoy the flowers and they begin dancing, singly and in groups. After a dramatic narrative and a dance about the customs of cherry blossoms viewing (hanami) in Kyôto, the stage shows the actors dancing in good spirit as tipsy men and women. Then, they all dance in an Edo-styled midsummer festival dance. Under the beautiful cherry trees, it seems that there is no way to stop them dancing. |
