Dekishima Kozarashi I

Dates of birth and death unknown. Related to a Dekishima performing in Onna Kabuki ("Woman Kabuki" in Kyôto from 1603 to 1629), he started his career in 1661 in Edo, where he performed as a wakashugata. He performed in the 11th lunar month of 1665 in Edo in the drama "Yakko Momijigari", which was produced by Bandô Matakurô I in his theater. Kozarashi performed [1] in the 8th lunar month of 1666 in Edo in Sakai-chô. He was invited [2] to perform at the Edo mansion of the daimyô Matsudaira Yamato-no-Kami [3]. He played in 1681 at the Moritaza the role of the mekake Osayo in the drama "Ichinoya Kankatsu Buro". No record afterwards. He was a talented musician and an outstanding dancer. He was also the master of Dekishima Kozarashi II, Dekishima Daisuke I, Dekishima Kogenta, Dekishima Ichiya and Dekishima Han'ya.

Dekishima Kozarashi II

Date of birth unknown. Nephew of the wakaonnagata actor Kishida Kosaiji, he started his career as a disciple of Dekishima Kozarashi I, who gave him the name of Dekishima Kosanza. He was recorded for the first time in 1692, performing as a wakashugata in Edo. He most likely took the name of Dekishima Kozarashi II at the end of 1695. He played in the 11th lunar month of 1704 at the Nakamuraza the role of Kôtô-no-Naishi in the new year drama "Shinshun Niwatori Taiheiki". He played in the 1st lunar month of 1704 in the same theater the same role in the new year drama "Shinshun Niwatori Soga". He appeared on stage for the last time in the 1st lunar month of 1705 at the Moritaza, where he performed in the new year drama "Shiraga Kintoki Shusse no Uwanari". He died the 27th day of the 1st lunar month of 1707 [4]. This onnagata actor was outstanding in budôgoto.

Dates of birth and death unknown. He was recorded for the first time in 1720 in Kyôto where he performed as an iroko. He played in the 11th lunar month of 1724 in Kyôto at Hayagumo Chôdayû's theater the role of Okura in the kaomise drama "Sanmen Daikoku Mangoku Dawara", which was produced by Mihogi Gizaemon I and starred Bandô Hikosaburô I, Arashi Sangorô I, Somenoi Hanshirô, Katayama Kozaemon, Mihogi Shichitarô, Matsumoto Tomojûrô I, Matsunami Hikojûrô, Fujikawa Heikurô, Sodeshima Genji, Tsugawa Kamon, Yamamura Utanosuke, Kirinami Onoe and Onoe Gonbê (who celebrated his shûmei). He was recorded for the last time in the wakaonnagata section of the 1725 Kyôto hyôbanki. His ranking was naka-no-jô-jô (superior - superior in the middle class). No record afterwards.

Dates of birth and death unknown. Dekishima Kozarashi IV [5] was recorded in 1754 as an iroko performing in Edo at the Moritaza. No record afterwards.
