Comments:

Daimatsu Hyakusuke was a popular and talented dôkegata in Ôsaka, who was active from the 1710s to the 1760s. One of the few Kabuki actors who had their name put in the title of a kaomise drama (in 1756 in the case of Daimatsu Hyakusuke)

[1] A rare event for a dôkegata actor.

[2] In fact, a comical character looking like Tônai Tarô. This character was famous in Ôsaka as it usually performed the roppô technique in the tanzen style.

[3] This drama was revived a few times in Kamigata up to 1816.

[4] Unknown casting.

[5] This was the premiere of "Ôgiya Kumagai".

[6] If you click on the visual link, the rank of Hayakawa Hatsuse was the one on the right side, not the left one which was much more usual.

[7] There were two zamoto at the Naka no Shibai, Mimasu Daigorô I and Nakamura Utaemon I, and there were two kaomise dramas produced in this theater. Nakamura Utaemon I produced the two dramas and Mimasu Daigorô I produced only the second drama. The two dramas had a different casting but used the same title "Ôzatsuki Shuen no Kachidoki".

Yamamoto Sakuya I and Daimatsu Hyakusuke playing the roles of Shigehachi and Tokubê in the kaomise drama "Meryû Oryû Kogane no Uroko", which was staged in the 11th lunar month of 1717 in Ôsaka at the Higashi no Shibai
