11th lunar month of 1756: debut on stage (hatsubutai), in Ôsaka at the Kado no Shibai, where he performed as a wakashugata/iroko in Namiki Eisuke I's kaomise drama "Taihei Yamato Monogatari", which was produced by Anegawa Daikichi I.

11th lunar month of 1767: Toyomatsu played at the Kado no Shibai the role of Tametomo's nyôbô Kuretaki in the kaomise drama "Danjo Aishô Kagami", which was produced by Nakayama Raisuke I.

11th lunar month of 1768: Toyomatsu played at the Naka no Shibai the role of Takanosu Tarô's nyôbô Akebono in the kaomise drama "Kômei Daifukuchô", which was produced by Mimasu Tanin I; the role of Takanosu Tarô was played by Ichinokawa Hikoshirô II.

5th lunar month of 1794: Toyomatsu went back to Ôsaka to play the roles of Uji-no-Tsubone and Omaki at the Kita no Shinchi Shibai in the drama "Ômi Genji Senjin Yakata". He also played the role of Jihê's nyôbô in the drama "Nobe no Kakioki"; the role of Jihê was played by Nakayama Bunshichi II.

8th lunar month of 1794: Toyomatsu went to Kyôto and played at the Higashi no Shibai the role of Ishidô Kageyu's nyôbô in the drama "Taiheiki Kikusui no Maki"; the role of Ishidô Kageyu was played by Yamamura Giemon II.

Fall 1794: Toyomatsu went back to Ôsaka.

5th lunar month of 1795: Toyomatsu appeared on stage for the last time, in Ôsaka at the Kado no Shibai, where he played the role of Kurando's okugata in the drama "Aigo no Waka Meika no Kachidoki"; the role of Nijô no Kurando was played by Arashi Koroku III.

29th day of the 2nd lunar month of 1796 [1]: Toyomatsu died [2].

Comments:

Hanagiri Toyomatsu III was a popular and talented onnagata actors who achieved fame for himself in Kamigata during the second half of the 18th century. He was said to be better in sewamono rather than in jidaimono dramas. He excelled in nyôbô or okugata roles.

[2] Hanagiri Toyomatsu III's tombstone was located in the precincts of the Hôsenji Temple in the district of Ikutama Nakadera.
