Career:

Before 1753: date of birth unknown. Born in the province of Kai, he settled in Edo and became a disciple of Tsuuchi Jihê II, who gave him the name of Tsuuchi Denjûrô I.

11th lunar month of 1753: Denjûrô worked at the Moritaza, along with Tsuuchi Eishi I, Namiki Ryôsuke and Nakamura Seikurô II, on the kaomise drama Masakado Kokyô no Nishiki.

11th lunar month of 1762: he became tatesakusha, took the name of Tsuuchi Jihê III and worked at the Ichimuraza on the kaomise drama "Kisoe Uta Sakae Komachi", which celebrated the shûmei of Ichimura Uzaemon IX and Ôtani Hiroji III.

11th lunar month of 1765: he took the name of Dontsû Yosabê I at the Nakamuraza, where he worked, along with Masuyama Kinpachi I, Nakamura Jûsuke II, Ida Sorobê and Nakamura Sadasuke, on the kaomise drama "Kagura Uta Amagoi Komachi", which celebrated the shûmei of Iwai Hanshirô IV.

11th lunar month of 1766: Yosabê worked at the Nakamuraza, along with Kadota Sorobê, Nakamura Jûsuke II, Masuyama Kinpachi I, Kawatake Shinshichi I and Sei Hidesuke, on the kaomise drama "Kogane no Hana Kaijin Arasmusha", which celebrated the arrival in Edo of the Kamigata actor Kirishima Gizaemon I.

11th lunar month of 1767: Yosabê worked at the Nakamuraza, along with Kadota Sorobê, Kawatake Shinshichi I, Sei Hidesuke and Tsuuchi Denjûrô II, on the kaomise drama "Taiheiki Shizu no Furisode".

1st lunar month of 1768: Yosabê worked in the same theater on the new year sogamono drama "Fude Hajime Soga no Tamazusa"; the roles of Kudô Saemon Suketsune, Soga Gorô Tokimune and Soga Jûrô Sukenari were played by Ichikawa Danjûrô IV, Ichikawa Yaozô II and Ichikawa Komazô II.

11th lunar month of 1768: Yosabê worked at the Nakamuraza, along with Masuyama Kinpachi I, Okuno Sasuke, Kawatake Shinshichi I and Hirata Bunji, on the kaomise drama "Ima o Sakari Suehiro Genji", which celebrated the arrival in Edo of the Kamigata star Nakamura Utaemon I and the shûmei of Osagawa Tsuneyo II.

1st lunar month of 1769: Yosabê worked in the same theater on the new year sogamono drama "Soga Moyô Aigo no Wakamatsu"; the roles of Kudô Saemon Suketsune, Soga Gorô Tokimune and Soga Jûrô Sukenari were played by Nakamura Utaemon I, Matsumoto Kôshirô III and Ichikawa Yaozô II. No record afterwards as he retired from the theater world in 1769.

19th day of the 4th lunar month of 1771 [1]: Yosabê died in Edo.

Dontsû Yosabê I was an Edo sakusha, who was active from the first half of the 1750s to the beginning of the 1770s.
