Career:

1710s ~ 1721: he started his career in Kyôto as a disciple of Shibazaki Rinzaemon I, who gave him the name of Shibazaki Jûzaemon. He switched to Shibazaki Denpachi at an unknown time. He became disciple of Kamakura Chôkurô I in Ôsaka at unknown times and received the name of Kamakura Heikurô I.

21st day of the 11th lunar month of 1718 [1]: his second master Kamakura Chôkurô I died.

11th lunar month of 1721: Heikurô performed at the Higashi no Shibai (Ôsaka) in the kaomise drama "Tenryû Chiryû Kogane no Suzunari", which was produced by Arashi San'emon III.

1722: his first master Shibazaki Rinzaemon I died.

11th lunar month of 1722: Heikurô played at the Kado no Shibai the role of Taira no Munemori in the kaomise drama "Shingoten Aioi no Komatsu", which was produced by Arashi San'emon III.

11th lunar month of 1723: Heikurô played at the Naka no Shibai the role of Tokimori's karô Kunitô [2] Daibu in the kaomise drama "Chûshin Futaba no Matsu", which was produced by Matsushima Hyôtarô.

11th lunar month of 1724: Heikurô became jitsuaku and played at the Kado no Shibai the role of Kanamori Wadanojô in the kaomise drama "Banzei no Minato", which was produced by Arashi San'emon III.

11th lunar month of 1726: Heikurô became katakiyaku and played at the Ônishi no Shibai the role of Takayama Inujirô in the kaomise drama "Gosha no Yonegura Fukki no Yama", which was produced by Yamamoto Kyôshirô I.

Fall 1728: Heikurô went to Kyôto.

11th lunar month of 1728: Heikurô became jitsuaku and played at Kameya Kumenojô's theater (Kyôto) the role of Matsuoka Genjûrô in the kaomise drama "Tokiwagura Kogane no Ishizue", which was produced by Tamiya Hannosuke.

Spring 1730: tour in Nagoya.

11th lunar month of 1734: Heikurô became katakiyaku and played at the Kado no Shibai the role of Iwabuchi Jôshin in the kaomise drama "Shin Yakata In'yô no Ishizue", which was produced by Nakayama Shinkurô I; his stage partners were Sawamura Otoemon I, Izumikawa Sennosuke, Tamiya Shirogorô, Yamashita Matatarô I and Matsushima Moheiji.

11th lunar month of 1738: Heikurô performed at the Kado no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Sanpukutsui Kogane no Ichigura", which was produced by Nakamura Jûzô I.

1st lunar month of 1739: Heikurô's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, katakiyaku section, was between jô-jô-(shiro)kichi (superior - superior - (white) excellent) and jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi [visual].

Fall 1739: Heikurô went to Kyôto.

11th lunar month of 1739: Heikurô became jitsuaku and played in Kyôto the role of Mochizuki Tôsuke in the kaomise drama "Oiwai Nô Nishiki no Manmaku", which was produced by Nakamura Kumetarô I.

1st lunar month of 1740: Heikurô's rank in the Kyôto hyôbanki, jitsuaku section, was jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi (superior - superior - (half-white) excellent) [visual].

Fall 1740: Heikurô went to Ôsaka.

11th lunar month of 1740: Heikurô became katakiyaku and played at the Naka no Shibai the role of the karô Iihara Hyôgo in the kaomise drama "Shinra Genji Shimada Gunpô", which was produced by Sanogawa Hanazuma II; his stage partners were Ôtani Hiroji I, Anegawa Shinshirô I, Arashi Sanjûrô II, Iwai Hanshirô III, Yamatoyama Jinzaemon II, Fujikawa Heikurô, Tomizawa Montarô I, Yoshizawa Ayame II and Yoshizawa Sakinosuke II.

1st lunar month of 1741: Heikurô's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, katakiyaku section, was jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi (superior - superior - (half-white) excellent) [visual].

11th lunar month of 1741: Heikurô played at the Naka no Shibai the role of Hamamatsu Isoemon in the kaomise drama "Genji Rokujûjô", which was produced by Anegawa Shinshirô I.

1st lunar month of 1742: Heikurô's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, katakiyaku section, was one black stroke above jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi [visual].

11th lunar month of 1742: Heikurô became jitsuaku and played at the Ônishi no Shibai the role of Ôba Saburô, in reality the karô Jibuemon, in the kaomise drama "Kudô Suketsune Ôiso Gayoi", which was produced by Nakamura Jûzô I.

12th lunar month of 1742: Heikurô played in the same theater the role of Gorota no Sabu, in reality Matsunaga Danjô, in the drama "Miyoshi Chôkei Sato no Agemaki"; this was his last-recorded stage appearance in ôshibai.

1st lunar month of 1743: Heikurô's rank in the Ôsaka hyôbanki, jitsuaku section, was two black strokes above jô-jô-(hanshiro)kichi [visual]. No record afterwards.

Comments:

Kamakura Heikurô I was a Kamigata actor, who was active as a katakiyaku or a jitsuaku from the beginning of the 1720s to the beginning of the 1740s. He was said to be more at ease in sewamono than in jidaimono. He was outstanding in beggar roles.
