1st lunar month of 1703: first-recorded performance; Denpachi played at the Yamamuraza the role of a yakko in the new year drama "Keisei Asama Soga".

7th lunar month of 1704: Denpachi played at the Yamamuraza the role of Mikasayama Jôtarô in the drama "Heianjô Miyako Sadame", which celebrated the shûmei of Ichikawa Danjûrô II.

4th lunar month of 1705: Denpachi's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, tachiyaku section, was naka (middle class).

11th lunar month of 1709: Denpachi became dôkegata and played at the Yamamuraza the role of Gyôbu Saemon in the kaomise drama "Taihei Okuni Kabuki", which celebrated the arrival in Edo of the Kamigata actors Asao Jûjirô I, Arashi Sanjûrô I and Fujikawa Buzaemon I.

11th lunar month of 1710: Denpachi moved to the Nakamuraza, where he performed in the kaomise drama "Shinsen Kazanin".

3rd lunar month of 1711: Denpachi's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, dôkegata section, was jô-(shiro)jô (superior - (white) superior) [visual].

4th lunar month of 1713: Denpachi's rank in the Edo hyôbanki, dôkegata section, was jô-jô (superior - superior) [visual].

25th day of the 10th lunar month of 1713 [3]: his master Nakamura Denkurô I died.

11th lunar month of 1724: Denpachi appeared on stage for the last time, in Edo at the Nakamuraza, playing the role of Yamanaka Shiganosuke in the kaomise drama "Taiheiki Okuni Kabuki"; his stage partners were Ichikawa Danjûrô II, Sawamura Sôjûrô I, Matsumoto Kôshirô I, Yamashita Kinsaku I and Ichikawa Monnosuke I.

Comments:

Nakamura Denpachi was a popular and talented Edo dôkegata, who was active from the beginning of the 1700s to the middle of the 1720s. He reached the prestigious jô-jô-kichi rank in 1719. He was said to be an outstanding dancer. He performed at the Yamamuraza at the beginning of his career then he settled at the Nakamuraza, the family theater of his master, where he spent most of his career from the 11th lunar month of 1710, with the exception of 2 seasons at the Ichimuraza (from the 11th lunar month of 1722 to Fall 1724). He never performed at the Moritaza.

[1] He was recorded between 1703 and 1712 as either Nakamura Denpachi or Nakamura Denpachirô. The first name Denpachirô was recorded for the last time in the Edo hyôbanki which was published in the 3rd lunar month of 1712.
