He made his first stage appearance in the 11th lunar month of 1826, receiving the name of Ichikawa Shinnosuke (he was not considered as a regular member of this line). He spent almost no time on stage as an actor and was mainly a backstage assistant for his elder brother Ichikawa Danjûrô VIII. He took the name of Ichikawa Jûbê at an unknown date and he never held the name of Ichikawa Komazô. The Kabuki world decided during the Meiji era that he was the sixth Ichikawa Komazô. |
