Career:

11th lunar month of 1848: he made his first appearance on stage, at the Ichimuraza where he received the name of Ichimura Takematsu III.

20th day of the 8th lunar month of 1851 [1]: his father Ichimura Takenojô V died.

2nd day of the 10th lunar month of 1855: the Ichimuraza was destroyed by the Ansei Edo Earthquake (Ansei Edo Jishin).

8th lunar month of 1868: great shûmei at the Ichimuraza; Ichimura Kakitsu IV and Ichimura Takematsu III respectively took the names of Onoe Kikugorô V and Ichimura Uzaemon XIV (the new zamoto of the Ichimuraza).

11th lunar month of 1868: Uzaemon produced in his theater the classic "Kanadehon Chûshingura"; he played the roles of En'ya Hangan, Ôboshi Rikiya and Ashikaga Takauji.

8th lunar month of 1870: Ichimura Uzaemon XIV took the name of Ichimura Kakitsu V.

1st lunar month of 1871: Ichimura Kakitsu V took back the name of Ichimura Uzaemon XIV.

9th lunar month of 1871: the Ichimuraza debts were too heavy for Uzaemon, who decided to leave the management of the theater to Fukuchi Mohê; Ichimura Uzaemon XIV took back the name of Ichimura Kakitsu V and Fukuchi Mohê changed the name of the theater to Murayamaza, whose new zamoto was Fukuchi Mohê's son, a 10 years old boy who took the name of Murayama Matasaburô II.

11th lunar month of 1871: Kakitsu performed at the Nakamuraza in the classic "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura".

4th lunar month of 1872: Ichimura Kakitsu V took the name of Bandô Kakitsu I.

March 1873: premiere at the Murayamaza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's drama "Taiko no Oto Chiyû Sanryaku"; Kakitsu played the roles of Sakurai, Takigawa and Ukyô [casting].

June 1873: premiere at the Nakamuraza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's drama "Tsuyu Kosode Mukashi Hachijô", commonly called "Kamiyui Shinza"; Kakitsu played the role of Chûshichi [casting].

September 1873: Kakitsu performed at the Murayamaza in the drama "Hana Momiji Nori no Ongaku", which commemorated the the 49th anniversary (50th memorial service) and the 22nd anniversary (23rd memorial service) of the passing away of Ichimura Uzaemon XI and Ichimura Takenojô V.

October 1874: premiere at the Kawarasakiza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's drama "Kumo no Ueno San'e no Sakumae"; Kakitsu played the role of Matsue Izumo-no-Kami [casting].

June 1878: Kakitsu took part in the reopening ceremony of the Shintomiza.

September 1878: Kakitsu took part in the reopening ceremony Ichimuraza, which was no more managed by the Ichimura clan.

October 1878: premiere at the Shintomiza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's drama "Jitsugetsusei Kyôwa Seidan"; Kakitsu played the role of Ômiya Tsunesaburô [casting].

February 1879: premiere at the Shintomiza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's drama "Ningen Banji Kane no Yo no Naka"; Kakitsu played the role of the Mondo tedai Tôtarô [casting].

16 July 1879: Kakitsu took part in the gala night at the Shintomiza in the honor of the General Ulysses S. Grant [more details].

23 May 1880: premiere at the Saruwakaza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's drama "Arimatsuzome Sumô Yukata"; Kakitsu played the role of sumôtori Raiden Tameemon [more details].

March 1881: premiere at the Shintomiza of Kawatake Mokuami's masterpiece "Kumo ni Magou Ueno no Hatsuhana"; Kakitsu played the role of Lord Matsue [casting].

June 1881: premiere at the Shintomiza of Kawatake Shinshichi II's dance-drama "Tsuchi-gumo"; Kakitsu played the role of Minamoto Raikô [casting].

November 1883: premiere at the Ichimuraza of Kawatake Mokuami's drama "Zôho Tenjiku Tokubê", a revision of Tsuruya Nanboku IV's "Tenjiku Tokubê Ikoku Banashi"; Kakitsu played the roles of Umezu Kamon Tomoharu, Nakama Isuke and Yoshirô's son Inosuke [casting].

December 1883: tour in Nagoya with Ichikawa Sadanji I.

January 1885: two dances were staged at the Chitoseza, about to reopen in February 1885 with a new name. From the 4th to the 7th of January, two auspicious dances and a kôjô with the troupe led by Ichikawa Danjûrô IX were staged. The sanbasô was staged with Ichikawa Sadanji I (Okina), Kakitsu (Senzai) and Onoe Kikugorô V (Sanbasô). This was also the premiere of the Nagauta-based dance-drama "Tsuru Kame" [more details].

February 1885: Kakitsu took part in the opening ceremony of the Chitoseza [more details]. Premiere at the Chitoseza of Kawatake Mokuami's drama "Suitengû Megumi no Fukagawa"; Kakitsu played the role of the policeman Tamio Yasumori [casting].

November 1885: premiere at the Chitoseza of Kawatake Mokuami's drama "Shisen Ryô Koban no Ume-no-Ha"; Kakitsu played the roles of the wakadanna Itamiya Tokutarô and Tachibana no Monjirô (a member of the Chitose kôjû) [more details].

March 1886: première at the Chitoseza of Kawatake Mokuami's drama "Mekura Nagaya Ume-ga-Kagatobi"; Kakitsu played the role of Minosuke [casting].

March 1890: premiere at the Kiriza of Takeshiba Kisui's drama "Kami no Megumi Wagô no Torikumi"; Kakitsu played the role of the tobi Shibai-chô Fujimatsu [more details].

September 1891: premiere at the Kabukiza of Fukuchi Ôchi's drama "Zôho Onna Narukami"; Kakitsu played the roles of Kumo no Taemanosuke and Tomiwakamaru (in reality Kumo no Taemanosuke) [more details].

November 1891: the title "Oto ni Kiku Tenjiku Tokubê" was used for the first time, in Tôkyô at the Fukanoza; Kakitsu played the role of Nagoya Sanza [casting].

January 1892: premiere at the Kabukiza of Kawatake Shinshichi III's drama "Shiobara Tasuke Ichidaiki"; Kakitsu played the role of Fujinoya Mokuemon [casting].

March 1893: Kakitsu appeared on stage for the last time, at the Ichimuraza, performing in the drama "Yamabiraki Meguro Shinfuji".

18 March 1893: Kakitsu died in Tôkyô.

Bandô Kakitsu I was a Meiji tachiyaku, who excelled in wagotoshi roles. he was also the last zamoto of the Ichimuraza.
