The founder of the line Iwai Hanshirô I held this name from 1685 to the 4th lunar month of 1699.

Eldest son of Iwai Hanshirô I, he started his career as an actor in the 11th lunar month of 1696, performing under the name of Iwai Kamematsu I in either wakashugata or wakaonnagata roles. His father died in the 3rd lunar month of 1699 and he had to replace him as a zamoto, producing in Ôsaka Tsuuchi Jihê I's drama "Keisei Hachijô Shima". In the 4th lunar month of 1699 he took the name of Iwai Hanshirô II [1]. He produced in Ôsaka the drama "Aioi no Ume" in Spring 1710 and most likely died the same year.

Born the 3rd of May 1951 in Tôkyô. Eldest daughter of Iwai Hanshirô X, she was also adopted in 1964 [2] in the family of late Iwai Hanshirô IX. She became the sôke of the Iwai School of Buyô in 1981. She was not only a dance master but she also worked as an actress, either for the movies or the TV dramas. She took the name of Iwai Hanshirô XI the 28th of November 2021 at the National Theatre.

[1] At the same time, his brother Iwai Toramatsu took the name of Iwai Kamematsu II.

[2] Her real name, which was Nishina Yumi, became Iwai Yumi.
