The Hanshirô in Edo was considered as the real heir of the Iwai clan whereas the Hanshirô in Kamigata was not acknowledged as a legitimate holder of the name, even if he was a tachiyaku like Iwai Hanshirô III whereas Iwai Hanshirô IV was an onnagata! 11th lunar month of 1769: Iwai Hanshirô took the name of Nakamura Shingorô II in Kyôto, performing in the kaomise drama "Asahimaru Genji Kagami", which was produced by Onoe Kumesuke and welcomed in the Imperial City the actor Sawamura Sôjûrô II and his son Sawamura Tanosuke I. 1st lunar month of 1770: Nakamura Shingorô II took the name of Nakamura Shingo [2] in the same theater, playing two roles in the new year ni-no-kawari drama "Keisei Kayoi Chidori". Comments: Nakamura Shingorô II was a promising tachiyaku actor, who made his career from the beginning of the 1750s to the end of the 1770s not only in his native Kamigata but also on the stages of Edo. He was unfortunately too frail and died in his prime. [1] The 19th day of the 11th lunar month of the 6th year of the An'ei era was the 18th of December 1777 in the western calendar. [2] Recorded as Nakamura Shinkichi, not Nakamura Shingo, in Nojima Jusaburô's book "Kabuki Jinmei Jiten". |
