Kasanui Sensuke I

Dates of birth and death unknown. He started his sakusha career as a disciple of Horikoshi Nisôji I. He used the pen name Kasanui Sensuke I. He worked [1] in the 11th lunar month of 1772 at the Moritaza on the kaomise drama "Izu Goyomi Shibai no Ganjitsu" which celebrated the shûmei of Sawamura Chôjûrô IV, Sawamura Kijûrô II and Mikuni Fujigorô. He became a disciple of Sakurada Jisuke I in 1778 and nimaime sakusha in the 11th lunar month of 1778, working [2] at the Nakamuraza on the kaomise drama "Motomishi Yuki Sakae Hachinoki", which celebrated the shûmei of Yoshizawa Ayame IV and the first stage appearance of Bandô Mitahachi I. He became tatesakusha and worked [3] in the 11th lunar month of 1781 at the Ichimuraza on the kaomise drama "Mukashi Otoko Yuki no Hinagata", which celebrated the shûmei of Matsumoto Sanjûrô and Ichiyama Sukejûrô. He became tôdori at the Moritaza. He took the name of Kasanui Yonetomi in the 1st lunar month of 1793, working at the Nakamuraza on the new year sogamono drama "Saikai Soga Nakamura", which celebrated the shûmei of Nakamura Denkurô IV and welcomed back in Edo the actor Sawamura Sôjûrô III. It was also the shûmei of Yamashita Mangiku II (who came to Edo with Sawamura Sôjûrô III) and the hatsubutai of Sawamura Sôjûrô III's son Sawamura Tetsunosuke I. He took back the name of Kasanui Sensuke I in the 11th lunar month of 1794 at the Kiriza, where he worked [4] on the kaomise drama "Otokoyama Oedo no Ishizue". Sensuke worked [5] in the 11th lunar month of 1798 at the Moritaza on the kaomise drama "Taiheiki Mitsugi no Funauta", which celebrated the shûmei of Ichikawa Aragorô I. Sensuke stopped working as a sakusha and became tôdori at the Nakamuraza. Then, he left the Kabuki world and took the tonsure in the small hermitage in the district of Hama-chô.

Dates of birth and death unknown. Disciple of Sakurada Jisuke III, his first pen name was Sakurada Matsubê. His second pen name was Sakurada Danji. He took the name of Kasanui Sensuke II in 1858. He worked in the 1st lunar month of 1862, along with his master Kyôgendô Sakô II, on the new year sogamono drama "Sano Keizu Soga no Gosho-zome", which was staged at the Nakamuraza. The roles of Kudô Saemon Suketsune, Soga Gorô Tokimune and Soga Jûrô Sukenari were played by Bandô Hikosaburô V, Sawamura Tosshô II and Sawamura Tanosuke III. No record for Kasanui Sensuke II afterwards.
