    "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami" is one of the best Kabuki plays, whose main thema is the downfall of Sugawara no Michizane (called Kan Shôjô in the play), a devoted scholar, born in Kyôto in 845, pure in heart and deed, who went on to serve the Emperor as a trusted Minister of the Right, until he fell into disfavor and was exiled. He died in the spring of 903, aged 59, and was deified and worshipped as the God of calligraphy Tenman (or Tenjin). Japan celebrates this year the 1100th anniversary of Sugawara no Michizane death and the Kabukiza decided to program the 6 best acts of "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami" with an amazing casting:
