    Comments

A great program with the stage giant Bandô Tamasaburô, the young rising star Nakamura Shidô and the dynamic Omodakaya guild (without its master Ichikawa Ennosuke who is still on sick leave but supervises everything from behing the curtain). Kawatake Mokuami's masterpiece "Sannin Kichisa" narrates the adventures of three thieves whose common features are the same first name (Kichisa) and a strong sense of honour. Oshô Kichisa, a bonze turned thief, Ojô Kichisa, a thief who dresses like a young woman to steal people, and Obô Kichisa, an ex-samurai turned thief, are played by Nakamura Shidô, Bandô Tamasaburô and Ichikawa Danjirô. Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura features 2 rarely staged scenes ("Horikawa Gosho" and "Heisoto"). The role of Tadanobu (or the fox Genkurô disguised as Tadanobu) is played by Nakamura Shidô in "Michiyuki Hatsune no Tabi" and Ichikawa Ukon in "Shi-no-Kiri" (it goes without saying that this scene ends with a chûnori, the trademark of the Omodakaya guild). The role of Shizuka Gozen is played in both acts by Bandô Tamasaburô.
